This section explains how to start ScanGear from GIMP and scan a document

Only GIMP can start ScanGear. No other application can start ScanGear.

1. Place the document face-down on the platen glass.

2. Select [Create] -> [ScanGear MP...] from the [File] menu in GIMP.

 

The [Select Scanner] dialog is displayed.

3. From the list, select the model you want to use, and then click OK.

 

To use this machine with a USB connection, select "Canon MP640 series (libusb:port number)." To use this machine with a network connection, select "Canon MP640 series (MAC address)."

The models displayed in the list consist of USB-connected scanners and network-connected scanners.
When you start ScanGear for the first time in a network connection or if the scanner that you want to use is not displayed in the list, click [Update Scanner List] to run a network search.

Check the MAC address of this machine as follows:

1. Using the buttons and the OK button on the operation panel of this machine, select the menu items as follows: [Settings] > [Device settings] > [LAN settings] > [Confirm LAN settings].

2. Select [Wireless LAN settings list] or [Wired LAN settings list], and press the OK button.

3. Check the [MAC address] from the displayed network setting information.

4. Click [Preview].

 

The preview image is displayed in the preview area.

5. Configure setting items as required.

6. Click [Scan] to start scanning.

The scanned data is displayed in the GIMP windows.
